Sports Massage Therapy
What is a sports massage?
As you might have guessed, sports massages are a form of therapy specifically geared towards athletes.
These massages are used to treat, as well as prevent, sports related injuries. Sports massages are typically administered either before, or after, an athletic event.
Pre-event sports massages
Pre-event sports massages are great for preparing your body for a game, race, or other type of athletic activity. The best time to have a pre-event massage is 20 to 60 minutes before an event to ensure there is enough time to conduct the therapy and maximize its effectiveness.
Post-event sports massages
Just like how a warm up is important before exercise, a cool down is equally important to prevent injury afterwards. Post-event massages should occur following activity to reduce inflammation and muscle soreness, and reduce the threat of a future injury.
